Happy New Year!
We hope you had a wonderful holiday and restful break!

There will not be a PTA General Association meeting on Wednesday, the 13th, as is listed in the PTA calendar and on Mr. Hodgin's newsletter that went home.  We have decided to postpone the meeting until the last week of January so we can prepare to discuss the budget cuts and what the latest impact is going to mean in the areas of:  closing the school libraries, increasing class sizes, eliminating buses, cutting staff, etc.  We have asked for someone from the district or school board to come and speak with us directly.  Mr. Hodgin will also be on hand to give us his perspective.  We will send out a notice to this distribution when we have the date and agenda finalized.  Again, it should be in the morning during the week of January 25th.  We hope you see you all there.
Under the Tuscan Moon Tickets on Sale Now
Art Gallery
Get your tickets now for Under the Tuscan Moon, out annual dinner and auction fundraiser that is being held on Friday, February 5th, at the elegant Ranch Golf Club.  The evening will start at 6:00 pm with previews and early bids on the silent auction items.  The silent auction will not only have the exciting themed baskets that every class has put together but also many event and restaurant packages, photography, golf, jewelry, Disney tickets, spa certificates and more.  And, of course, our always popular Teacher Times where you child and a friend can participate in a special activity with their favorite teacher.

After the silent auction is wrapped up comes the highlight of the evening - the live auction of the amazing art and some other special items. The art this year includes more than one stunning mosaic piece, a game table, a mirror set, paintings, a toy chest, and more - all created by the students under the guide of very special artist volunteers.  Keep an eye on the main hall at JFS for this art to be displayed as the event draws nearer.

There will also be a raffle and dancing to round out the evening. Tickets are on sale now at only $50 each and include: 4 course sit-down dinner and a complimentary glass of wine as well as a commemorative wine glass, great food, good company and fun times.

Thanks to our sponsors of this event: Albin Engineering, Crimson Property Specialists, Clarity Med Spa, The Ranch Golf Club, Freeman Orthodontics, Tim Mosley - Financial Advisor, and the AIM Printing/Mail Center.

Under the Tuscan Moon Pizza Bash is ON!!!
It has become a JFS tradition that our children get to have a party while we are having our party.  This year's Pizza Bash in the JFS Multi-purpose room promises not to disappoint.  We are going to have the Wii on the big screen again with Dance Dance Revolution hopping on another TV.  Games galore will be organized with door prizes given out to winners. A special section will be set up with crafts that the kids can make and then take home with them. Snacks, drinks, and pizza will be provided.  All this for only $7 per child - $5 of which is donated to the YMCA who provides the excellent child care.

This party is only open to children of attendees of Under the Tuscan Moon.  Payment will be taken at the door.  For speedier check-in fill out a release form before dropping off your children.  You can download it from our website: http://www.bennettwebs.com/jfspta/utm.   For more information contact Sharon Bennett at sharon@bennettwebs.com.

Winter Festival Sensation
Winter Fest
You could feel the magic in the air as the families and guests arrived in the MPR at JFS for the annual Winter Festival and the show did not disappoint.  It was a potpourri of talent that seems to just get more impressive every year.  Each grade performed a song or dance that showed the hours of practice they put in.  From the kinders with their adorable rendition of the Hokey Pokey  through sixth grade and all the grades in between, it was non-stop entertainment.  The fifth and sixth graders stole the show with their Hip Hop version of Santa Claus song.   The slide show that showed some of the incognito moments of the performers and parent volunteers was the perfect transition into the impressive finale, Believe, sung by all the children together.

This show is a culmination of hundreds of hours of volunteer work and there are many people to thank - we had parents whose children were not even in the show helping out - moms and dads alike.   Without these people it wouldn't have come together so well so a special thanks to:  Katie (kinder), Uyen (1st), David (stage coordination), Sangita (1st), Kajal (1st),  Devashree (2nd), Lily (3rd), Teresa (4th), Gina (5th and 6th  and co-chair and program), Cecille (co-chair), Sulaxa (sound), Priya, Akila, Mohan, Juliana (refreshments), and all the other people that touched the show.   And, of course, our super-human chair of the event who single-handedly brought this show back from the brink of being cancelled - Vicky Pascual!!  She ran an amazing show, truly loves the children and seeing them perform, and was a natural MC for the evening.  When we told her we were writing an article she said "please relay my heartfelt appreciation for all the wonderful volunteers, the participants and, of course, their families.  Without them, my ideas won't go anywhere, but my head."

We are still accepting orders for the DVDs of the show - they are $10 each which can be sent in with your child, Attn: PTA WF DVD.  Feel free to contact Vicky with any questions at

Arts Attack Gallery Show A Success!
Art Gallery
Thanks to Tracy Wilkinson and Valerie Whetstone for bringing a fabulous Art Gallery event to our school.  Our Art Gallery night on December 3rd was a great success with many families getting to admire the beautiful art that the kids created that literally transformed the multi-purpose room into an art gallery.  Also, we were able to offer framing for the art for a very low price of either $5, $15, or $20.  Other schools bring in a company to do their art gallery night and the frames are over $40 each.  It was a wonderful way to showcase the student's art and show off our Arts Attack program.  Thank you to all the wonderful parents that made it happen: Devashree, Padmaja, Tina, Annie, Tania, Loretta, Sharon, Noreen, Sujana, Teresa, Suluxa, Ameet and Usha. We really appreciate all your help. Thank you!
